In 2015, inspired by an entrepreneurial spirit, Brad founded Deadly Grounds Coffee Canada, a niche horror-themed coffee company specializing in convention sales, e-commerce, wholesale, and brick-and-mortar operations.

A strong advocate for community engagement, he established The Cadet Coffee Program in 2016, benefiting Air, Army, and Sea Cadet Corps as a reflection of his commitment to giving back to the Cadet movement.

In February 2018, Deadly Grounds Café and Curiosities opened in Courtice, Ontario, becoming a cornerstone for coffee distribution. After parting ways with 8-Bit Beans in 2021, Brad shifted focus to expanding Deadly Grounds Coffee Canada. In 2024, the company underwent a strategic rebranding, transitioning to Coffin Creek Coffee Co. This rebrand broadened its appeal, creating a cohesive identity for a wider customer base.

Kerry Katz

Kerry Katz is a professional with many hats, always ready for the next challenge, and committed to lifelong learning. She is passionate about process improvement, change management, team dynamics and collaboration in her work across several industries.

Kerry started her employment journey in the food and beverage industry, and then launched into customer service, sales and marketing. Kerry completed a Bachelor of Commerce at McMaster University in 2008, specializing in Marketing, Finance, and French, and completed an internship in product marketing at NCR in Waterloo, ON. During this time, she also worked for the Business Improvement Area (BIA) in Markham, ON, helping small businesses capitalize on events and local marketing strategies.

Her career took a twist while adapting to life with a chronic illness, and sparked an interest in the healthcare industry. After taking a leadership role to implement health promotion campaigns and research projects in tobacco cessation, she was accepted to Brock University to complete a Master of Arts in Community Health to continue these initiatives in a research setting. During this time, she continued to hold leadership roles and use her skills in marketing to implement successful campaigns on campus to improve the health of students.

With a strong desire to help others, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Toronto in 2010, and worked in acute care as a Registered Nurse. During this time, Kerry completed two fellowship programs, to build skills in leadership, change management, needs assessment and quality improvement, and successfully implemented projects to improve access to educational resources for staff and streamlining processes for better patient care. During her second fellowship, Kerry began working in the complex world of diabetes care, and completed training to become a Certified Diabetes Educator in 2015. Since that time she has been a leader in patient-centered care for those living with type 1 diabetes, bringing greater access to technology and resources for patients and staff alike. She continues to be driving force for process improvement, creating efficiency in clinical work without compromising the importance of compassionate care, and contributing to the development of high-performing teams.

In 2021, she met her partner Brad Mavin and was introduced to Deadly Grounds Canada. After several years of supporting and learning the family business, Kerry was excited to get back to her business roots and joined the team as CFO, to use her expertise in process improvement to streamline the financial structure during the rebrand to Coffin Creek Coffee Co. In 2024, with their complementary strengths and areas of expertise, Kerry and Brad joined forces in their partnership to launch Coffin Creek Franchise Corp., to bring outstanding coffee and a uniquely spooky experience to the masses, and provide exceptional support to franchisees.
